With the New Year here and the holiday season over, many of us are reevaluating some of our life choices. New Year’s resolutions are the perfect opportunity for all those who have failed to start making changes that they said they would make next week, next month, or perhaps when winter starts.
Well, now’s your chance to sit down and not only evaluate your personal resolutions you wish to make, but how about some GWRRA resolutions. It is actually a little easier for us in the Northern States to reevaluate our intentions within GWRRA than our far southern States due to the fact they are able to ride all year round for the most part.
While reading some of the top 50 most common resolutions one caught my attention and was listed in the number 5 position - Meet New People. In this article it says, “When we get stuck in a rut, we usually end up staying at home most of the time, missing out on a lot of interesting opportunities for networking and having fun. Meeting new people can be beneficial to your mental well-being so don’t be afraid to get out there and make some friends. Overcome your shyness, get some knowledge and go and get to know new and interesting people.” Wow, this mirrors a lot of what GWRRA’s purpose is. GWRRA gives you such a great opportunity to meet new people; it’s there for your taking.
When you are sitting down and planning what you would like to do, or where you would like to go in 2019, make it your resolution to try and meet someone new. Those of you that know us, know that we participate in GWRRA not only within our Chapter or District, but outside our District. When we first joined we made a resolution that when we travel to a Chapter that we haven’t been to before, or a District that we haven’t gone to before, we decided we were going to make an effort to meet someone new at each of those events. We have done that each time we have gone somewhere. We now have friends all over the country. GWRRA gave us this opportunity, but we made it happen. That is one of the reasons we joined this great organization, to meet people that have the same interest as we do.
So when you are thinking about your resolutions, don’t just think about attending a Chapter or District gathering or ride, mark it on your calendar and make your reservation to attend. Our Chapter and District gives you a lot of opportunities to attend rides throughout the year. The Chapter has scheduled many rides, some you are familiar with or may have done in the past and also some new rides that will take you on roads you may never have been on before. These are opportunities for you to get out there and meet new people and also ride your motorcycle on new roads.
As a reminder of some of the opportunities you have as a GWRRA member, the Wisconsin District is holding Wingfest on January 26, 2019, at the Hotel Mead in Wisconsin Rapids. This will consist of two MFA classes with an evening session of Wingo. There are some surrounding Districts such as Illinois and Missouri that hold winter events that give you a great chance to meet other GWRRA members outside your District. Those dates are posted on the District’s website. Make plans to attend a couple of Chapter gatherings throughout the year, either in Waupaca or Wisconsin Rapids. The District will hold Dust Off again in May, along with a District Rally in June, held at the Hotel Mead in Wisconsin Rapids. In August the District is offering two opportunities to ride; one is the Region E Reunion Ride-In at the Days Inn and Conference Center in LaCrosse August 8-11, and also our 1st annual District Picnic in Westfield on August 24.
Now is the time to make your resolution and mark your calendar to attend these events. We have heard in the past from some of the members our Chapter/District does the same thing each year. Well, here is your chance, we are doing something different. We are geared up to try something different by riding our motorcycles. So come join us at these events.
