FROM THE DIRECTOR:
Hello Team from Chapter Q,
Well summer is marching on quickly, hard to believe it is already August! In July we had two great day rides.
The first ride lead by Craig Holmes was to Hayward to check out the Fresh Water Fishing Museum which even for us none fisherman was really interesting. Where else could you climb a series of stairs and look out of the mouth of a Muskie! The series of buildings included exhibits of world record fish, thousands of lures, out board motors, fishing poles, and workshops for improving your fishing techniques and success. Besides the mammoth Muskie, the museum has large replicas of a majority fresh water fish which gave information and statistics of the individual fish species.
Before the museum we all headed to Hayward’s Southern Barbeque for some delicious smoked chicken, beef, or pork along with all the fixings. The weather was beautiful but hot, so it was good to have great food and an ice-cold drink while enjoying everyone’s company. Always good to share a few laughs and stories with everyone! As a good friend has told me, “meeting without eating is cheating”! I also want to give a warm welcome to Emery Rahm another first-time rider of Chapter Q.
The second trip was led by Ron Wolf to see the High Ground War Memorial. The ride was very scenic as we worked our way to Neillsville. The memorial is beautiful and is a wonderful tribute to all the men and women of all wars who gave their lives for our country. It is a very somber setting that when you see it in person really hits home and makes you appreciate all the freedoms that we have in this great nation.
We found an A&W Restaurant which had awesome food and root beer. After great fellowship we headed for a leisurely ride back to the Wausau. Of course, it wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t stop for ice cream, so we made a quick pit stop in Stratford to satisfy our cravings. Only as we got close to Wausau did we experience a little rain that watered our windshields but other than that we stayed dry the whole day and had beautiful weather.
On the 23rd of August we head to Minnesota’s Duluth and North Shore to check out some museum’s and beautiful scenery along Lake Superior. A few highlights for the group to see will be SS Meteor Maritime Museum, Fairlawn, Richard Bong Veterans Center, SS William Irwin Ore Boat Museum, and the Split Rock Light House just to name a few. I can’t wait!
If you or you know someone who is planning on going to Wing Ding which is going to be held in Knoxville, Tennessee from August 28th to September 1st this year. The Wisconsin District of GWRRA really needs your help in volunteering to help with ticket sales on Wednesday August 29th, please contact Frank or Sharon Jackson if can help on the Wisconsin GWRRA website or Facebook messenger. We will only need to cover the 1 day and there will be three shifts, 8:00am-11:00am, 11:00am-2:00pm and 2:00pm-5:00pm. You will need to be there 15 minutes prior to your shift for explanation of how the ticket packages are sold. We need 10 volunteers for each shift.
Thank you to all who continue to help with our Chapter events, socials, and rides. We have a great thing happening here and it is because of the wonderful members of Chapter Q. Until our next ride or get together take care and ride safe!
